Tips for staying organized and productive when working from home.

Working from home has become the new norm for many people but, staying organized and productive can be a challenge. With distractions lurking around every corner, it’s not always easy to stay on task. Let’s take a look at my favorite work from home tips for staying organized and productive.

In this post, I’m sharing five practical tips that will help you maximize your work from home routine. From creating a daily schedule to utilizing technology to stay organized, I’ve got you covered. Stay tuned to discover how you can stay productive and organized while working from home.

Create a Daily Schedule

TIPS FOR STAYING ORGANIZED AND PRODUCTIVE WHILE WORKING FROM HOME, make a schedule

One tip to staying organized and productive while working from home is to create a daily schedule. By establishing set work hours, you can maintain a sense of structure and routine in your day. I recommend blocking off time for specific tasks. This will help you stay focused and help you knock out your work in a more timely manner. Creating time blocks to focus on specific tasks will leave you feeling more accomplished as you plow through your workload.

Working from home can definitely be a challenge on those days that you feel like your house needs your attention. Focusing on work tasks can be a struggle when you’re feeling like you should be cleaning your kitchen or folding laundry.

I’ve found that time blocking is also useful for work that may need to be done around the house. I stay more focused if I block out an hour or two either at the beginning of my day or end of the day to do a few house chores rather trying to squeeze them in throughout the day during breaks.

This has actually helped me to stay more productive with work tasks when I’m working on work. The time blocks that I’ve blocked out for housework is meant for housework. The time that I’ve blocked out for work is for work. By keeping them separate, I’m able to be more focused and productive in both areas.

There are few things that are more satisfying than checking a to-do list off. I love a paper planner and written to-do list. However, I also love using an online system to organize my work. I have found that Asana and Trello are great online tools for project and task management. I personally use Trello and I geek out by how much fun it is to organize all of my work into different boards and lists.

By following a consistent daily schedule, you can stay more focused and boost your productivity.

Designate a Dedicated Workspace

DEDICATED WORK SPACE, WORK FROM HOME, TIPS

This next tip is extremely important when it comes to staying organized and productive while working from home.

Create a designated workspace in your home that is specifically for work-related tasks. This space should be free from distractions and clutter, allowing you to focus solely on your work.

Whether it’s a separate room, a corner of a room, or a dedicated desk, having a designated workspace can help signal to your brain that it’s time to work. Make sure your workspace is comfortable and organized, with all the tools and resources you need within reach. By setting up a designated workspace, you can create a conducive environment for productivity and concentration.

Incorporate Regular Breaks Throughout the Day

Don’t forget to schedule breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge. While I’m a big fan of being able to become hyper focused on a work project, it’s important to take a few breaks throughout the day. This will help you to stay productive and prevent burnout.

These breaks can be as simple as a quick walk around the block, a few minutes of stretching, or even just stepping away from your desk to grab a snack.

I mentioned earlier that it’s a good idea to block out bigger chunks of time for house chores so that it doesn’t disrupt your focus on work too much, but small breaks are perfect for quick chores like switching out the laundry!

Not only will these breaks help you stay refreshed and focused, but they can also improve your overall well-being and creativity.

Set Clear Boundaries Between Work and Personal Life

TIPS FOR WORKING FROM HOME, SIDE HUSTLE

To set clear boundaries between work and personal life, establish designated work hours and stick to them as much as possible. Communicate these hours to your colleagues, friends, and family members to ensure they understand when you are available. I highly recommend using a tool such as Slack to communicate with team members and clients. Otherwise, you may have people texting you all hours of the day and on days you are not working. It’s extremely important to be able to check out of work when you’re not working.

This is another reason why it’s so important to create a separate workspace. When you’re in this space, treat it as if you were in a traditional office setting, and when you leave the space, mentally switch off from work mode.

By implementing these boundaries, you can prevent work from encroaching on your personal time and vice versa, ultimately leading to a healthier work-life balance.

Utilize Technology to Stay Connected and Organized

Working from home can sometimes feel isolating. With the right tools and technology, you can stay connected with your colleagues and maintain productivity seamlessly.

Utilize communication platforms such as SlackMicrosoft Teamsor Zoom to stay in touch with your team members. These online tools are key in collaborating on projects in real-time. Not only will this help streamline communication, but also help you feel more connected to your colleagues. As much as I love working on my own at home, I also look forward to those weekly meetings with clients and always feel energized afterward.

In addition to communication tools, leverage project management software like Trello and Asana to keep track of tasks, deadlines, and priorities.

As mentioned earlier, these platforms allow you to create to-do lists, but also help you manage many other aspects of your work day. For example, set reminders and assign tasks to team members, ensuring that everyone stays on the same page and projects progress smoothly.

Most platforms offer a free trial. You can test the platform out to make sure it’s a good fit for your needs before paying for them. By using technology to streamline communication and organization, you can maximize efficiency and productivity while working from home.
